Stocks close higher to kick off big earnings week: Stock market news today
Stocks closed the day higher on Monday as investors prepared for a host of corporate earnings this week. Wall Street also braced for heightened geopolitical tensions as the US attempted to advance efforts to contain the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) increased 0.9%, or more than 300 points, while the the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) led the day's gains, up 1.2%. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) gained more than 1%.
Earnings season picks up steam this week, with reports from Goldman Sachs (GS) and Bank of America (BAC) due Tuesday after upbeat results from their Wall Street peers. Updates from Tesla (TSLA) and Netflix (NFLX) kick off tech earnings on Wednesday, likely to be scrutinized for clues to the sector's resilience amid higher-for-longer interest rates.

Alongside JPMorgan's results on Friday, CEO Jamie Dimon said this may be "the most dangerous time the world has seen in decades," a warning that is still resonating days later.
Investors remain focused on the Middle East crisis — and right now on whether the US and its allies can stop the clash from drawing in other countries, especially Iran. A full-blown regional conflict could send oil prices surging well above $100 a barrel, risking a global recession, some analysts believe.
Crude oil futures (CL=F) and Brent crude futures (BZ=F) traded in a tight range on Monday around $87 and $91 a barrel, respectively, after climbing almost 6% on Friday.
But prices for gold and bonds fell, attracting those seeking safe havens. The 10-year Treasury yield (^TNX) rose to 4.69%, recouping some of its losses from last week.

Biden Regime Threatens Banks That Refuse to Give Credit Lines, Loans to Illegal Aliens
The Biden Regime is threatening banks that refuse to give illegal aliens credit lines and loans.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the DOJ warned banks and lending institutions in a joint statement this week.
“The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and Justice Department today issued a joint statement that reminds financial institutions that all credit applicants are protected from discrimination on the basis of their national origin, race, and other characteristics covered by the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, regardless of their immigration status,” the CFPB said in a statement.
“The CFPB and Justice Department are issuing this statement because consumers have reported being rejected for credit cards as well as for auto, student, personal, and equipment loans because of their immigration status, even when they have strong credit histories and ties to the United States and are otherwise qualified to receive the loans.” they said.
“Fair access to credit is crucially important for building wealth and strengthening household financial stability,” said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. “The CFPB will not allow companies to use immigration status as an excuse for illegal discrimination.”
The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke warned banks that they may be violating federal law if they don’t give illegal aliens loans.
“Lenders should not deny people the opportunity to take out a loan to buy a home, build their businesses or otherwise pursue their financial goals because of unlawful bias and without regard to their actual ability to repay,” said Kristen Clarke. “This guidance reminds lenders that denying someone access to credit based solely on their actual or perceived immigrant status may violate federal law.”
More than 7.5 million illegal aliens have poured over the border since Joe Biden was installed in January 2021.
The illegals are given cash, and housing and now the banks are being forced to give them credit lines and loans.

Biden warns Israel against Gaza ‘occupation’
US President Joe Biden said he does not support any long-term Israeli occupation of Gaza, but believes that the Israel Defense Forces “going in” and “taking out the extremists” would be a “necessary requirement” to guarantee the security of the Jewish state.
The US leader vowed to provide Israel with “everything they need” to eliminate Hamas militants in Gaza, but does not expect American troops to take part in any combat operations.
“I don't think that's necessary. Israel has one of the finest fighting forces in the country. I guarantee we're gonna provide them everything they need,” Biden said in an interview with CBS 60 Minutes on Sunday.
The Israel Defense Forces said over the weekend that it is completing preparations for a “significant ground operation,” which will include a “joint and coordinated attack from the air, sea and land” in Gaza. The US commander-in-chief expressed hope that “the Israelis are gonna do everything in their power to avoid the killing of innocent civilians.”
However, Biden insisted that there is a “fundamental difference” between the Israeli civilians killed by Hamas militants and the Palestinians dying in retaliatory airstrikes.
“Israel is going after a group of people who have engaged in barbarism that is as consequential as the Holocaust. And so I think Israel has to respond. They have to go after Hamas,” the US leader said, expressing hope that “the Israelis are gonna do everything in their power to avoid the killing of innocent civilians.”
Israel occupied Gaza during the Six-Day War with Egypt, Jordan and Syria in 1967, and held it for nearly 40 years until 2005, when it withdrew its troops and settlers, but retained full control of its borders. In 2006, Hamas won the Palestinian legislative elections and assumed administrative control of the enclave. Since then, the group has engaged in several violent confrontations with Israel, triggering harsh pushbacks, but none comparable to the latest brutality.
When asked whether he would support another “Israeli occupation of Gaza at this point,” Biden said he believes it would be “a big mistake.”
“I think that… it would be a mistake to… for Israel to occupy… Gaza again,” he said. “But going in… but taking out the extremists, the Hezbollah is up north but Hamas down south, is a necessary requirement.”
The United States sent a second aircraft carrier armada to the Eastern Mediterranean, seeking to put pressure on Iran, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and other pro-Palestinian forces to stay out of the Israel-Gaza war. However, despite many US officials speculating about Iran’s possible involvement in the deadly raid which Hamas militants carried out on Israel, Biden acknowledged that “at this point” there is “no clear evidence” that Tehran knew about or helped Hamas plan the attack.

Epstein Victim Who Testified Against Ghislaine Maxwell Mysteriously Dies
One of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims who testified against Ghislaine Maxwell has mysteriously died.
Jeffrey Epstein’s pimp Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison earlier this year.
Maxwell worked as Jeffrey Epstein’s pimp for years and the DOJ knew they were running girls as young as 12 but they refused to act.
Carolyn Andriano, one of Epstein’s victims who testified against Maxwell, was found unresponsive in a West Palm Beach hotel earlier this year. West Palm Beach police opened an investigation into her death after it was concluded she died of an accidental drug overdose.
Andriano’s mother pleaded with police to investigate her daughter’s death and insisted she was drug and alcohol free.
According to The Daily Beast, Carolyn Andriano had been texting her mother about building her new life with her five children and husband, John Pitts shortly before she died.
The Daily Beast reported:
Carolyn Andriano, a victim of sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein whose testimony was crucial to putting away his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, has died.
There was no obituary or funeral service after she died earlier this year, and police in West Palm Beach, Florida, opened an investigation into her death. After The Daily Beast reached out for comment, police spokesman Mike Jachles told us that the investigation was concluding and that Carolyn died of an accidental overdose.
The 36-year-old mother-of-five had planned to start a new chapter in North Carolina, at a new house with a fireplace and half-acre lot with a chicken coop. Carolyn and her husband, John Pitts, had purchased the property just weeks before she was found unresponsive in a West Palm Beach hotel room on May 23.
Before her death, “she was ecstatic,” Carolyn’s mother, Dorothy Groenert, told The Daily Beast. “She was all set up for a whole new lifestyle.”
Groenert says Carolyn’s death came as a shock because she was working on building a new life and texted her recently about being free of drugs and alcohol.
The way Groenert sees it, some things about her daughter’s overdose don’t make sense, and she wants cops to investigate further.
The Gateway Pundit, in its pursuit of truth, reached out to John Pitts back in JUNE, to confirm whether she was indeed the individual who testified in the Ghislaine Maxwell case.

Report: Joe Biden Turns Down Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s Invite
President Joe Biden reportedly turned down Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s invite for a “solidarity visit” following the horrific terrorist attacks at the hands of Hamas.
Update: President Biden may be considering a trip to Israel soon, an administration official said.
“After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office leaks that the premier invited US President Joe Biden to pay a solidarity visit to Israel following Hamas’s massive assault, White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson says, ‘We have no new travel to announce,'” the Time of Israel reported.
As to why Biden turned down the trip remains unknown at this time. Needless to say, the president and Netanyahu have had a strained relationship since he resumed office. The two did not even agree on a White House meeting until September of this year. As Breitbart News reported:
Biden had rejected the traditional White House invite for Netanyahu earlier this year, objecting first to the prime minister’s proposed judicial reforms, and then to the presence of far-right parties in Netanyahu’s coalition.
However, when Israel’s ceremonial president, Isaac Herzog, arrived for a White House visit in July, the snub began to draw questions and criticism, and Biden appeared to relent, though he would not commit to a White House visit.
Both sides have softened their tone in recent weeks: Netanyahu has been outspoken about seeking compromise with the Israeli opposition on judicial reform, and Biden praised the U.S.-Israel relationship effusively Wednesday.
Since the horrific Hamas terrorist attack on Israel last weekend, which killed over 1,400 people (mostly civilians), Joe Biden has been publicly stalwart in his support for the country’s right to defend itself.
“If the United States experienced what Israel has experienced, our response would be swift, decisive, and overwhelming,” he said last week.
Biden called the Hamas terrorist attack a “violation of every code of human morality” and noted that the organization’s “stated purpose of being is to kill Jews,” and that its methods recalled memories of attempts to carry out the “genocide of the Jewish people” in history.

Israel Rejects Zelensky's Request To Visit: "Now Is Not The Time"
Ukraine's President Zelensky has been refused his own request to visit Israel out of "solidarity" after the Oct. 7 deadly attacks by Hamas, in yet another awkward moment for Kiev.
He was reportedly told by the Netanyahu government that "now is not the time" for such a state visit, according to Hebrew-language media. However, his office was told that there might be a later date for such a visit.
Israel's i24News wrote that "The yet unexplained denial of Zelensky’s solidarity visit comes as the U.S. President Joe Biden is reportedly expected to visit Israel as soon as Wednesday."
Zelensky had since the start of the new Gaza war issued series of strong statement in support of Israel. "The world must stand united… so that terror does not attempt to take or destroy life anywhere and at any moment," he had said.
He has also claimed that Russia is stoking conflict in the Middle East, also as a way to distract from its operations in Ukraine, but without offering any evidence.
Last Wednesday, Axios reported that "Zelensky's office sent an official request to the Israeli Prime Minister's office asking to coordinate a visit, the Ukrainian and Israeli officials said."
It seems the pro-Ukraine cause in general, including efforts in Congress and by the Biden administration to keep the billions in aid flowing, has been sapped of its prior enthusiasm and momentum.
And it's perhaps also the case that Israel perceived that Zelensky is trying to link Ukraine's cause with Israel's as a matter of PR.
At this moment, a major Israeli full offensive by air and ground appears imminent, though it's been delayed after there was an expectation that it would start this weekend. Some reports have said that bad weather is a factor.
But the Jerusalem Post has offered a different perspective, writing Monday, "Yet, now we have arrived at late Monday, and if anything, the signs (which could also be psychological warfare) are that the invasion is further away, and not yet imminent."

Biden Admin Sent $2 Billion to Afghanistan Since Taliban Takeover
What was the purpose of Biden’s pullout from Afghanistan again? So we could send them money without any inconvenient terrorist attacks getting in the way? I’ve spent a lot of time reporting on Biden’s betrayal but these numbers are still staggering.
After the latest earthquake, the Biden administration is sending another $12 million in aid.
The money, like much of our aid, is going through “USAID humanitarian partners”, which is to say NGOs that the Taliban allow to operate, which either pay money to the Taliban or are the Taliban.
Samantha Power’s USAID boasts that “the United States is the single largest humanitarian donor in Afghanistan, providing nearly $2 billion in humanitarian assistance for Afghans since mid-August 2021, including more than $1.46 billion from USAID.”
Abolishing USAID would be a fantastic way to defund terrorists and save a lot of money.
$2 billion. To a terrorist-controlled entity. It’s incredible.
In August 2021, I predicted that, “Biden Will Fund Taliban Through ‘Humanitarian Aid'”, but even I’m blown away by the sheer scope of this.
Meanwhile, the Taliban are doing things like this to American aid workers.
Almost 20 staff members of a charity organization operating in central Afghanistan, including one U.S. national, have been arrested by regional officials in the Taliban-controlled nation, a spokesman for the provincial government in Ghor province told CBS News. The 18 detained aid workers were arrested for “propagating and promoting Christianity,” a violation of the Taliban’s strict regulations on all non-governmental groups, according to Abdul Wahid Hamas, the spokesman for the regional administration in Ghor province.
A local employee of The International Assistance Mission (IAM) in Ghor province also told CBS News, on the condition that he not be named, that the detained foreign employee was a U.S. woman who works at the office.
Has she been released? Did the Biden admin even threaten to hold up its latest cash infusion until she is? Don’t bet on it.

WATCH: 'South Park' takes direct shot at identity politics, leftists are already fuming
Adult cartoon "South Park" is perhaps best known for two things:
An intentionally crude animation style meant to mimic paper cutouts
An irreverent attitude that aims to skewer ideas and people all across the ideological spectrum -- from former President Donald Trump and immigration policies to Harry and Meghan, and trangenderism.
The show, which first aired in 1997, has been running strong for some time now and has made it clear it will continue on taking a gleeful hatchet to all of society's most divisive topics and the show's latest teaser makes it clear that will continue.
In a new trailer for a "South Park" "exclusive event" (more on this terminology later) slated to air Oct. 27, the show makes it clear what it will be lampooning this go-around: identity politics and race or gender swaps in established fictitious characters.
WARNING: The following video contains content the viewer may find offensive
In the clip, the core cast of characters, all of whom are young white boys, have all been "re-cast" as various women of color, with the exception of Kyle.
The joke, presumably, is that Kyle, a Jewish character, already fulfills the "minority" requirement. The rest of the show's main characters, however, were drastically changed.
Cartman became a black woman, Stan became a Hispanic woman, Butters became a black woman, and Kenny became an Asian woman to round out the dramatic changes.
When Kyle complained about these re-casts not making any sense, the show's "P.C. Principal" character ("politically correct" principal) told him that he was the problem -- an oft-cited retort to many complaints about race or gender swaps in established fiction.
The trailer was largely met with enthusiasm from fans, based on the YouTube responses, but others were less than enamored with this latest teaser from "South Park."
One example of that comes from the far-left leaning AV Club, which ripped the trailer right out of the gate with their article title: "There's a new South Park 'event' teaser and god, we're already so tired."
The content of the article matched the tenor of the title, and a swift glance at the comments on that article show a number of people upset with South Park's latest parody.
But whatever drama the show's latest teaser may have triggered pales in comparison to the drama behind the scenes of the long-running adult cartoon.
The reason that this new trailer is touting an "exclusive event" and not a new episode, season or movie, is because of an ugly (and still unresolved) $50 million lawsuit surrounding the show.
The complicated legal battle largely stems from streaming rights issues, with Paramount, South Park Digital Studios and Warner Bros. all involved in the ongoing litigious controversies.
In grossly simplified terms, "South Park" creating new episodes or a new season, or a new movie, could potentially violate the streaming rights deal they signed.
The current workaround are these "exclusive events."

Primary School Children Targeted with Green Propaganda by Just Stop Oil Millionaire Funder
Just Stop Oil funder Dale Vince is pressing ahead with plans to flood British primary schools with environmental and Net Zero societal propaganda. Children aged 11 and under are being taught that they face an unprecedented global climate emergency, with the possibility that the planet is entering a sixth mass extinction. The solution of course is “sustainability” and green energy, a matter that is dear to the heart of multi-millionaire Vince. His ageing onshore wind farm company Ecotricity has collected £110 million in green taxpayer subsidies over the last 20 years, at a time when he has pocketed at least £43 million in various corporate payments.
The Ministry of Eco Education (MEE) was started by Vince in 2021 with the stated aim of “greening up the curriculum”. From an initial base of 15 ‘pioneer’ schools, it is working to scale this up to 1,000. MEE operates by inserting its messaging into all aspects of primary learning including transport, energy, food, nature and society. It aims to “save teachers time”, and it claims to have “rearranged the national curriculum” around what it describes as big questions. MEE also claims to be working with secondary schools to adapt its primary approach to Key Stage 3.
Although few lesson examples are available on the MEE website, it is easy to piece together some of the ideas being taught. A lesson on veganism notes that industrial farming has negative impacts on the planet, but apparently “isn’t just about food”. Most of the sources quoted are little more than promotions for veganism with a link to a Guardian article explaining why vegans don’t eat honey. There does not appear to be any discussion about the wisdom of removing all types of animal protein from the diets of very young children, something that many scientists think should be done only under strict nutritional supervision.
The education leader of MEE is Paul Turner and a video is supplied of him talking to a group of young children in the Ecotricity tent at the Womad festival. Bouncing around a giant globe, he explains that the correct level of carbon dioxide in the planet is the ‘magic’ number of 360 parts per million (ppm). Quite how he is able to point to such a precise – if magical – figure to stop the climate changing is not explained. There are many eminent scientists who think it is a little on the low side for animal and plant life to prosper. Certainly, the children are not told the dinosaurs lived in a world of plant plenty at a time when CO2 levels were much higher. Turner, who is described by MEE as a “radical geographer”, tells the children that we need to “hoover” up all the gas, and on this front Dale is making a contribution.
In fact the current level of CO2 is around 420 ppm and recent increases are believed to have led to a dramatic 14% greening of the planet. Hoover up all this extra CO2 and veganism starts to seem an ‘unsustainable’ option. Remove nitrogen fertiliser from agriculture as many eco-extremists want and the consequent massive reduction in crop yields starts to look like mass famine.
But then it isn’t just about the planet is it? In a paper published by MEE titled ‘Foundations for an Eco Curriculum’, it is said that “we are increasingly recognising that any efforts to tackle climate and ecological emergency must also respond to the structural inequalities inherent in society”. Furthermore, “any eco school curriculum must explore ideas of social structures and processes as much as they do the natural environment, as well as exploring the intersection of ideas such as gender, race and inequality. From a young age, children are aware of injustice and can apply ideas of fairness and the environment.”

Progressives call for US to take in some of the expected 1 million Gaza refugees
Experts predict a million refugees might flee the Gaza Strip amid the war between Israel and Hamas, and socialists and far-left lawmakers said America should welcome them.
“Fifty percent of the population in Gaza are children. The international community as well as the United States should be prepared to welcome refugees from Palestine while being very careful to vet and not allow members of Hamas,” said Rep. Jamaal Bowman, a New York member of the Socialist-Democratic “Squad” who remains under investigation for pulling a fire alarm in the House Cannon Office Building earlier this month.
But Republicans have already slammed the door shut on the issue.
Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) said they would oppose Palestinian resettlement efforts here.
“The U.S. is the most generous nation in the world, but we are in no position to accept additional refugees, especially from a region with as high a risk of terrorism, given our nation’s inability to secure our own border or vet those who are already here,” Rubio told The Post.
Scott added that “the entire focus of the United States right now should be on rescuing American hostages, and making sure that Israel has every resource needed to defeat Iran backed-Hamas and defend its homeland.”
Cotton said “Iran should take responsibility for any Palestinian refugees caused by its proxy . . . war with Israel. Iran is responsible for the death and destruction — it should be responsible for refugees as well.”
The White House repeatedly refused to say whether it would be open to accepting refugees from the conflict.
“We continue to provide support to Palestinian refugees through the UN,” a spokesman said. “The United States also has a worldwide refugee resettlement program in partnership with The UN Refugee Agency.”
Mariana Dahan, founder of the World Identity Network (WIN) Foundation, estimated the “conflict . . . may add over 1 million people to the already staggering number of 6 million Palestinian refugees in the world.”
The United States took in 25,465 refugees from around the world in 2022, a 123% increase from 2021, according to State Department records.
Approximately 170,000 Palestinians live in the United States, according to census data.
Squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is the only Palestinian-American in Congress and currently flies a Palestinian flag outside her House office.
