Sweden 'bracing for war' as defence and army chiefs issue scary warning to citizens
Image Credit: Defense chiefs are warning the Swedish population to brace for war (Image: Getty)
Swedes have been warned to brace for the possibility of war in the wake of their country's anticipated NATO membership in 2024 and the backdrop of Russia's conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking at the Folk och Forsvar conference in Salen, Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin stressed the urgency of enhancing Sweden's resilience, citing concerns over the sluggish modernisation of the civil defence system. Mr Bohlin urged a collective effort from all segments of society, emphasising the need for swift action.
"Many have said it before me, but let me say it with the force of my office – there could be a war in Sweden," said Mr Bohlin,
Drawing parallels with Ukraine, which is facing a full-scale Russian invasion, Mr Bohlin commended their "total resilience" and stressed that a similar effort in Sweden requires widespread awareness and understanding of the situation.
In agreement with Mr Bohlin, Commander-in-Chief Micael Byden echoed the seriousness of the situation, urging individuals to prepare mentally. "This is a very serious situation, and the clarity yesterday was unmistakable. It is now about moving from words and understanding to action," warned Mr Byden.
While acknowledging recent investments to bolster Sweden's security, Mr Byden highlighted the importance of expedited NATO membership for further strengthening the country's defence capabilities. "Hope is not a strategy on which to build plans, but hope must be there. It’s not all doom and gloom," he added.

SEC says it did not yet approve bitcoin ETF, X account was compromised
Image Credit: Omar Marques | Lightrocket | Getty Images
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said Tuesday afternoon that an announcement about bitcoin exchange-traded funds on social media was incorrect.
“The SEC’s @SECGov X/Twitter account has been compromised. The unauthorized tweet regarding bitcoin ETFs was not made by the SEC or its staff,” an SEC spokesperson told CNBC.
The false social media post said the SEC had approved bitcoin ETFs for trading. The price of bitcoin briefly spiked after the initial post, but then quickly slid below $46,000.
In a later statement Tuesday evening, an SEC spokesperson told CNBC that the agency determined that there had been unauthorized access to the regulator’s X account “by an unknown party” for a brief period just after 4 p.m. ET.
“The SEC will work with law enforcement and our partners across government to investigate the matter and determine appropriate next steps relating to both the unauthorized access and any related misconduct,” this spokesperson said.
The SEC is expected to make a decision on bitcoin ETFs this week after opposing them for years. More than a dozen asset managers have filed applications to create such a fund, including many that filed updated registration statements Tuesday morning.
The price of the largest cryptocurrency has been climbing in recent months, in part because of growing optimism that the so-called spot bitcoin ETFs would be approved. Funds that track the price of bitcoin futures already trade on exchanges in the U.S.
Crypto advocates contend that the launch of the spot bitcoin funds could bring a new type of investor into digital assets. ETFs are an instrument that financial advisors use regularly. The idea is that advisors and investors who have been spooked by the intricacies around custody of bitcoin would be more willing and able to buy crypto in an ETF wrapper.
SEC Chair Gary Gensler has been a vocal opponent of crypto during his tenure, and the commission has brought legal action against several major crypto exchanges. Gensler had used social media earlier in the week to urge investors to use caution when buying products tied to crypto.
Last year, the SEC lost a court case against crypto asset manager Grayscale, which wants to convert an over-the-counter trust holding bitcoin into an ETF. The SEC declined to appeal that ruling, fueling speculation that the regulator would soon approve bitcoin ETFs.

Chinese Billionaire Is Second-Biggest Foreign Owner of US Land
(Bloomberg) -- A Chinese national who made his fortune from online gaming has emerged as one of the most significant non-American holders of land in the US.
Chen Tianqiao owns 198,000 acres (80,127 hectares) of Oregon timberland, making him the country’s 82nd-largest property owner, according to the Land Report’s latest ranking.
Chen, 50, acquired the acreage from Fidelity National Financial Ventures for $85 million in 2015. Oregon tax records last month disclosed the name of the beneficial owner as Shanda Asset Management, the same moniker as Chen’s Singapore-based holding group.
His Oregon property makes him one of the biggest individual owners of American land by a non-US citizen. Only the Irving family of Canada — No. 6 on the Land Report’s list with over 1.2 million acres of Maine timberland — owns more.
Foreign ownership of US land — particularly land used for farming — has become a sensitive political issue in recent years. About 40 million acres of American agricultural land was owned by non-US interests as of 2021, according to the most recent Department of Agriculture data, with entities from China owning the equivalent of .03% of all US farmland.
Some lawmakers have pushed for national rules restricting foreign investment in American agricultural property. The Senate voted in July to ban the sale of farmland beyond a certain acreage or value to people or businesses from China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, but the measure wasn’t ultimately signed into law. Almost half of all states have some sort of restrictions on foreign ownership.
A native of Zhejiang Province, Chen started an online gaming company, Shanda Interactive, in 1999. Within five years it had become one of China’s largest internet companies and was listed on the Nasdaq in the US. Chen took the company private in 2012 and moved his holding group’s headquarters from China to Singapore.
His investments span public and private equities, venture capital and real estate, according to Shanda’s website. He and his wife Chrissy Luo made an initial $115 million donation to found the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute for Neuroscience at the California Institute of Technology in 2016 with the mission of advancing understanding of the brain.
Ultra-wealthy investors seeking an inflation hedge and uncorrelated assets have increasingly flocked to farmland and other rural properties in recent years. The average value of US cropland jumped 8.1% last year and has risen by more than a third since 2020, according to the USDA.
The gains are driven by food demand and high inflation but also by interest in rarefied properties, like classic western ranches, that offer recreation as well as investment return potential.
The country’s biggest landowner is the Emmerson family, owners of timberland empire Sierra Pacific Industries, followed by billionaires John Malone, Ted Turner and Stan Kroenke.

Secret synagogue tunnels are causing chaos in New York. What’s really going on?
Chaotic scenes erupted at a synagogue in New York on Monday when a group of young Orthodox Jewish men attempted to stop construction workers filling in a network of secret underground tunnels.
When the tunnels were discovered in December at the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn, the synagogue’s leaders called in construction crews to flood them with concrete.
But a group of Chabad-Lubavitch students in their teens and early 20s gathered at the building on Monday afternoon in an attempt to protect the hidden passageways.
Videos from the scene captured Orthodox men vandalising a cement truck that had begun to pump cement into the tunnel.
Others were seen entering the building and tearing up wood paneling, revealing a network of pathways beneath.
Several of the men ran into the tunnels to stop them being filled, while one used a hammer to smash the synagogue wall to make the tunnel wider.
The group also overturned seats and confronted police.

In another video, a young Orthodox Jewish man climbs out of a hole in the pavement outside the building, then runs away.
On X, footage went viral of a showdown between police and a crowd of Orthodox Jewish men inside the building has amassed more than five million views.
In the clip, three men stand inside the tunnel with one casually sipping a drink.
Social media users expressed their confusion at the scene, with many asking: ‘What am I looking at here?’

A woman named Emma Batsheva Saulz captured the collective thought, writing: ‘I’m really not sure what I just watched but it’s wild.’
10 people were arrested by the New York Police Department and the synagogue has since been closed.
Here’s everything we know about the story so far.
Why are there secret tunnels under the Brooklyn synagogue?
The underground tunnels connected the women’s section of the 770 building to an unused mikveh on the nearby Union Street.
A mikveh is a bath used in traditional purity rituals. For instance, Jewish law requires women to immerse in a mikveh before marriage, and bathing in the mikveh is part of the Jewish conversion process.
One video of the tunnels shows a room the disused mikveh filled with a mound of earth and rubble. A small hole in the wall of the room leads to a long tunnel about a meter high.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin diagnosed with prostate cancer
WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was diagnosed with prostate cancer last month and developed complications from a minimally invasive procedure he underwent to treat and cure it, officials at Walter Reed National Military Center said Tuesday.
The complications led to Austin's being admitted to Walter Reed on Jan. 1 and, eventually, the intensive care unit. Austin remained in the hospital Tuesday.
The Defense Department took three days to inform the White House and key defense officials about Austin's hospitalization, prompting criticism and triggering a review of procedures about how the head of the military could be away from his duties for so long without senior members of the administration knowing.
President Joe Biden and other top White House officials learned about his hospitalization Thursday, but National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters Tuesday that neither Biden nor anyone else at the White House knew about Austin's cancer diagnosis until Tuesday morning, hours before Walter Reed officials made the information public.
The cancer was discovered in early December in routine lab tests for prostate screening, Walter Reed officials said. The surgical procedure Austin underwent on Dec. 22 was a prostatectomy, during which he was “under general anesthesia.”
"Secretary Austin recovered uneventfully from his surgery and returned home the next morning. His prostate cancer was detected early, and his prognosis is excellent," the officials said.
Austin, 70, was then admitted to Walter Reed on Jan. 1 "with complications from the December 22 procedure, including nausea with severe abdominal, hip, and leg pain," the officials said.
An initial evaluation found that Austin had a urinary tract infection, and on Jan. 2, a decision was made to transfer him to the intensive care unit for “close monitoring and a higher level of care," the statement said.
Doctors then discovered that Austin had "abdominal fluid collections impairing the function of his small intestines."
"This resulted in the back up of his intestinal contents which was treated by placing a tube through his nose to drain his stomach," the officials added. "The abdominal fluid collections were drained by non-surgical drain placement. He has progressed steadily throughout his stay."
Officials said in the statement Tuesday that Austin’s “infection has cleared” and that “he continues to make progress and we anticipate a full recovery although this can be a slow process.” They said that during his subsequent hospitalization, Austin “never lost consciousness and never underwent general anesthesia.”
At a briefing Tuesday immediately after the statement was released, the Pentagon press secretary, Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, told reporters that Austin “continues to recover well and is in good spirits.” He said the Defense Department will release daily status updates about Austin's condition. Ryder said he hasn’t spoken with Austin and didn’t know why he hadn’t shared details about his illness earlier, but he said prostate cancer and its treatments are “deeply personal.”

Update: Lloyd Austin Went Under Procedure for Prostate Cancer Surgery December 22; Did Not Tell Biden or Deputy Secretary Hicks

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, 70, secretly had prostate cancer surgery on December 22, Walter Reed doctors revealed in a statement on Tuesday, adding Austin was placed under general anesthesia for the operation. The Pentagon said yesterday that Austin did not inform Joe Biden, the White House or Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks about the medical procedure. (Note: Austin was under general anesthesia for the Dec. 22 procedure but not when he was treated in the ICU after January 1.)
Austin was secretly taken back to the hospital by ambulance a week later on New Year’s Day in “severe pain” from complications from the cancer surgery where he then spent a week being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Austin kept just about everyone in the dark about his condition until last week, including Joe Biden even though the U.S. is involved in conflicts in the Middle East and Europe and a hot zone in the South China Sea.
Austin was gravely ill with a spreading infection and intestinal issues requiring a tube to drain his stomach. Austin is now out of the ICU.
Statement by Austin’s Walter Reed doctors:
Statement read to reporters by Pentagon spokesman Gen. Pat Ryder:
White House spokespersons told reporters on Monday that Biden has no intention of firing Austin.
At Monday’s Pentagon press briefing by Gen. Ryder, it was revealed the White House (meaning Biden) was not told about Austin’s surgery, nor was Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, reported CNN’s Haley Britzky, “NEW from gaggle today w/ PentagonPresSec: The Pentagon did not inform the White House of Austin’s elective procedure on Dec 22, which led to the recent complications and hospitalization. DepSecDef was also not informed of the procedure despite being delegated some authorities.”

BREAKING: RAY EPPS SENTENCED – NO JAIL TIME! – One Year Probation, $500 fine, and 100 Hours Community Service! – JUSTICE IN AMERICA IS DEAD! Lone ‘Insurrectionist’ Skates!
TWO-TIERED JUSTICE IS NO JUSTICE!
J6 Operative Ray Epps was sentenced on Tuesday to NO JAIL TIME!
Ray Epps, the only January 6 protester who actually told people to go into the Capitol, has been officially sentenced to one year probation, $500 restitution, and 100 hours community service.
Epps did not have to show up for court today – he called in via Zoom.
The Biden regime refused to charge Epps with hurling a sign at police when 8 others are rotting in prison today for just touching the sign.
Ray Epps steered it towards the police and hurled it at them. He is free today.
Our government is broken.
Patty McMurray at 100 Percent Fed Up discovered the video months ago.
In this damning video, Ray Epps is filmed hoisting the massive Trump sign with several other Trump supporters. Epps was likely leading the efforts as he led the crowd when they breached not just the first set of barriers to the US Capitol but also the second set of barriers to the US Capitol that day. (another crime)
In the video, you can see Ray Epps near the corner of the sign.
The protesters walk it over to where the police are standing outside the US Capitol.
Ray Epps is with them the entire time. After the sign is released Ray Epps pops up and is seen standing and directing the crowd.
This was captured on video. Patty McMurray discovered this clip.
In January, The Gateway Pundit posted an additional video of Ray Epps hurling the sign at police.
Please Note: No police officers were hurt during the incident.

JUST IN: Senator Roger Marshall Introduces Vote of No Confidence Resolution Against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (VIDEO)
Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) on Tuesday introduced a vote of no confidence resolution against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for helping Biden create “the worst border crisis we’ve ever seen,” said Marshall in a speech on the Senate Floor.
“It is clear that DHS Secretary Mayorkas has zero operational control of our border and, as a consequence, has ceded power to the cartels who have made their way to the heartland, now operating throughout Kansas,” Marshall said in a statement Tuesday.
More than 11 million illegals, who are mainly military-age males and include many known or suspected terrorists, have invaded the US on Joe Biden and Mayorkas’ open border invitation. More than 300,000 illegal aliens crossed over the US border in December alone, according to Customs and Border Protection.
Seventeen illegals who are on the FBI’s terror watchlist were encountered in November alone, according to data from Customs and Border Protection. How many more have slipped through the cracks with the other 11 million illegal aliens?
“Federal authorities seized more than 14,000 pounds of illicit fentanyl along the southwest border during fiscal year 2022, 27,000 pounds of illicit fentanyl during fiscal year 2023, and 3,500 pounds of illicit fentanyl in the first 3 months of fiscal year 2024, which is evidence of increased efforts by transnational criminal organizations to traffic dangerous substances into the United States,” the 13-page resolution states.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, House Republicans last week started new impeachment proceedings against Mayorkas for his handling of the ongoing southern border crisis.
Senator Marshall issued the following press release before introducing his resolution:
Senator Marshall Leads Vote of No Confidence in DHS Secretary Mayorkas
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall released the following statement before heading to the Senate Floor to call for a vote of no confidence in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas. Time and time again, Secretary Mayorkas has failed to do his most basic job- protect the homeland. He is derelict in his duties and complicit in Joe Biden’s open borders agenda. Failing to secure our southern border has created a historic national security crisis and caused a nationwide fentanyl crisis that is killing a Kansan nearly every single day.
“Since day one, Joe Biden has embraced open border policies that have created the worst border crisis in history. Every second wasted not securing our southern border emboldens the cartels who are infiltrating our communities and killing a Kansan nearly every day with lethal fentanyl,” Senator Marshall said. “It is clear that DHS Secretary Mayorkas has zero operational control of our border and, as a consequence, has ceded power to the cartels who have made their way to the heartland, now operating throughout Kansas. Americans are demanding accountability for Secretary Mayorkas’ failure to uphold his oath and keep our homeland safe. Today, I’m going to the Senate Floor to demand a vote of no confidence in DHS Secretary Mayorkas. The American people have no confidence in Sec. Mayorkas and neither does the United States Senate.”

Senator Marshall grilled Mayorkas on the Senate floor as he introduced the resolution.

GOP Rep. Cammack: Mayorkas Told Lawmakers They Won’t Like ‘Who Comes Next’ if He’s Impeached
There’s a scene in every ’90s detective TV show right before the end when the culprit suddenly starts admitting to all his crimes.
It seems like Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas may have reached that point.
Mayorkas has been saying the quiet part out loud a lot lately, and it’s both concerning and downright sinister.
On Thursday, the secretary admitted on Fox News’ “Special Report” that reports of over 70 percent of migrants being released into the U.S. daily “would not surprise me at all.”
“And I will tell you that when individuals are released, they are released into immigration enforcement proceedings. They are on alternatives to detention. And we have returned or removed a record number of individuals. We are enforcing the laws that Congress has passed,” he told host Bret Baier.
Then, on Monday, Mayorkas confessed to Border Patrol agents during a meeting in Eagle Pass, Texas, that the current rate of release for migrants caught illegally crossing the southern U.S. border is actually “above 85 percent,” Fox News reported, citing three Border Patrol sources who were present.
The National Border Patrol Council confirmed the story as it responded to a post about the meeting by Fox News’ Bill Melugin.
“Your sources are correct,” the union said on X. “During this meeting, [union president] Brandon Judd told Mayorkas that Americans have the right to know the facts about what’s going on at the border. It was at that point Mayorkas admitted that ‘over 85%’ of the people illegally crossing our border are being released.”
But probably the most sinister of all the Mayorkas confessions allegedly happened at a closed-door meeting with House Republicans, according to Rep. Kat Cammack of Florida.
According to the congresswoman, when GOP members told the secretary behind closed doors that “you’re getting ready to be impeached,” he responded, “You’re not going to like who comes next.”
Cammack recounted the story to Fox News’ Harris Faulkner on Monday, eliciting a shocked “Whoa!” from the “Outnumbered” host.
“I asked him if that was a threat, and he just smiled,” Cammack continued. “This man is dangerous, he knows exactly what he’s doing and he is two-faced. We need to get rid of him now.”

ARMED SIEGE IN ECUADOR: Gunmen Hijack TV Station Broadcast, Take Hostages, and Open Fire — Attempt to Kidnap University Students and Professors Reported (VIDEO)
During a live broadcast at the TC television station, armed individuals wearing hoods stormed the studio, forcing staff to lie on the ground while shots and shouting could be heard in the background.
The live feed, which was eventually cut off, showed distressed staff members huddling on the studio floor in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Voices were heard exclaiming “no police” during the live transmission, Reuters reported.
According to local news outlet Tiempo, various criminal groups took to the streets on Tuesday to express their displeasure with President Daniel Noboa’s declaration of a state of emergency for 60 days.
This alarming event took place in the wake of a series of violent episodes, including the kidnappings of at least seven police officers and various explosions.
The announcement was made following the disappearance of the leader of the Los Choneros criminal group, known as Ecuador’s “most-wanted prisoner,” from the prison where he was incarcerated.

Here’s a clear video of gunmen with grenades:
Aljazeera reported:
Noboa, a former legislator and son of one of the country’s richest men, took office in November on promises to fix the struggling economy and stem a wave of violence on the streets and in prisons, which has been growing for years.
Noboa declared the 60-day state of emergency – a tool used by his predecessor to little success – on Monday, enabling military patrols, including in prisons, and setting a national nighttime curfew.
The measure was a response to the disappearance of Adolfo Macias, leader of the Los Choneros criminal gang, from the prison where he was serving a 34-year sentence and unrest at six other prisons, including hostage-takings of prison guards.
Police and prosecutors have given scant information about Macias’s disappearance.
Three police officers working the night shift were taken from their station in the southern city of Machala, the police said on social media on Tuesday, while a fourth missing officer was taken by three people in Quito.
