In response, Beijing’s sovereign wealth arm, Central Huijin, was deployed to buy up stocks and halt the bleeding. Yet traders report frozen orders, evaporating clients, and price chaos.
Worse: China crossed the 7.20 devaluation line on the yuan for the first time since 2023, signaling the start of a currency war. The risk? $60 trillion in domestic deposits potentially fleeing.
Beijing has promised more stimulus, as it has every week for the past three years. But with a debt-to-GDP ratio of 330%, their room to maneuver is shrinking fast.
