U.S. Auto Workers Warn of ‘Poverty Wages’ from Biden’s Electric Vehicle Mandates as Canadians, GM Strike Deal
After thousands of Canadian auto workers joined the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike, a deal was reached with General Motors (GM) to end their strike.
Meanwhile, the UAW strike continues with American auto workers warning that they face “poverty wages” as a result of President Joe Biden’s electric vehicle (EV) mandates.
On Tuesday, about 4,300 Canadians at three Ontario-based General Motors (GM) plants joined the UAW strike. GM faced a potential production issue, as the plants produce a number of vehicles, including Chevrolet Silverado trucks, one of the automaker’s most profitable.
Officials with Unifor, the Canadian labor union equivalent to the UAW, accused GM executives of “stubbornly refusing” to match a contract the union has with Ford, which includes up to 25 percent wage hikes.
“Our bargaining team was crystal clear with the company throughout these negotiations: our members are united and ready to strike, no exceptions,” Unifor GM Master Bargaining Chair Jason Gale said in a statement:
Everything our members do, from the trucks we assemble, the stamping plant we run, the engines and transmissions we build, and the parts we deliver, are all critical to GM’s bottom line. This dispute can only end one way: with GM agreeing to the same terms in our pattern agreement with Ford. [Emphasis added]
Soon after joining the strike, though, Unifor officials announced they had reached a deal with GM executives.
Meanwhile, UAW President Shawn Fain continues to warn that Biden’s EV mandates — which the Big Three automakers are happily abiding by — threaten to lower American auto workers’ pay to “poverty wages” as tens of thousands face immediate layoffs.
CBS News reports:
Automakers are telling workers their jobs are secure, but the union doesn’t see that in the transition to electric vehicles, Fain said. Instead, the companies want to pay “poverty wages” at the new plants and drive down pay in the industry, he said. [Emphasis added]
“It’s really hard to envision a future for us where we have no piece of the battery,” said Fain, adding that 20% — almost 30,000 — of the union’s 146,000 members at the Detroit Three now work in factories that make internal combustion engines and transmissions. [Emphasis added]
Farley and other auto executives have said that because EVs have fewer moving parts, they will require 30% to 40% fewer workers to assemble than gasoline vehicles. But GM CEO Mary Barra insists there will be enough work to bring everyone along. [Emphasis added]
For weeks, auto workers have said they are worried their jobs will be eliminated altogether as a result and that supply chains will be dominated by China, which controls nearly 70 percent of the world’s lithium, 95 percent of manganese, 73 percent of cobalt, 70 percent of graphite, and 63 percent of nickel.
Late last month, reports revealed that talks between the UAW and GM, Ford, and Stellantis have stalled because of the lack of commitment from automakers regarding preserving auto workers’ jobs and wages despite Biden’s EV mandates.
While auto workers worry about their jobs being eliminated, automaker executives are set to score billions in lucrative tax credits thanks to Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which will incentivize EV production and sales.

US ready to move ‘additional assets’ to Mideast after Hamas attack
US President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he is ready to order extra military forces to the Middle East in the wake of the bloody attack by Hamas on Israel.
“The United States has also enhanced our military force posture in the region to strengthen our deterrence,” Biden said in a White House speech, referring to the dispatch of an aircraft carrier group to the eastern Mediterranean.
“We stand ready to move in additional assets as needed.”

(LEAD) N. Korea blames Israel for conflict with Hamas
SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Tuesday denounced Israel over its escalating conflict with the Hamas militant group, saying it is the "consequence of Israel's ceaseless criminal actions" against the people of Palestine.
The criticism marked Pyongyang's first response to the conflict after Hamas launched rocket attacks on Israel during a major Jewish holiday Saturday and Israel staged retaliatory strikes against it.
"A large scale armed conflict has occurred between Hamas of Palestine and Israel," the Rodong Sinmun, the organ of the North's ruling Workers' Party, said in a short article without specifying which side first launched the attacks.
"The international community calls the conflict the consequence of Israel's ceaseless criminal actions against the people of Palestine," the newspaper said, adding the "fundamental" solution is an independent Palestinian state.
The criticism came days after the newspaper denounced Israeli soldiers for killing Palestinians in separate incidents that occurred ahead of the conflict.
An official at South Korea's unification ministry said Pyongyang's claim may have been aimed at strengthening an "anti-U.S. alliance."
"It is not surprising given that North Korea has revealed its perception on various international issues that is far from common sense or conventional standards," the official told reporters on condition of anonymity, adding the North may have "considered an anti-U.S. alliance in the bigger picture."
Radio Free Asia, a Washington-based media outlet, reported on the suspected use of North Korean weapons by Hamas fighters, citing a video shared by the X account War Noir.
It said one of the fighters was seen holding an F-7 high-explosive fragmentation rocket manufactured in the North, which had been exported to the Middle East in the past.
It remains unclear whether North Korea directly supplied the weapons to Hamas or whether they were provided through transactions involving other countries.

N. Korea defends military spy satellite as 'indispensable strategic option'
SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Yonhap) -- A North Korean official on Tuesday called the country's military spy satellite an "indispensable strategic option" to counter the United States, which is "getting hell-bent on space militarization."
Following two botched attempts to launch the military spy satellite, named the Malligyong-1, mounted on the Chollima-1 rocket in May and August, North Korea has announced plans for a third attempt in October without specifying a specific launch date.
"The space development including military reconnaissance satellite is an indispensable strategic option for guaranteeing the security interests and right to existence of the DPRK," Ri Song-jin, a researcher of the North's National Aerospace Technology Administration, said in an English article carried by the country's official Korean Central News Agency.
DPRK refers to the acronym of the North's formal name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Ri said North Korea will strengthen its "self-defensive capabilities" amid what the official called the "ever-escalating military threat and aggression scheme of the U.S. and its vassal forces in all areas including space."
A military spy satellite is among the high-tech weapons that the North has vowed to develop, which also include solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles and a nuclear-powered submarine.

Thousands of 'special interest aliens' from Middle East countries stopped at southern border since 2021: data
Thousands of "special interest aliens" from numerous countries, including the Middle East, have been arrested by Border Patrol agents while attempting to cross the U.S. southern border illegally over the last two years, according to internal Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data leaked to Fox News.
"Special interest aliens" are people from countries identified by the U.S. government as having conditions that promote or protect terrorism or potentially pose some sort of national security threat to the U.S.
That data, confirmed by multiple CBP sources and reflects apprehensions between ports of entry between October 2021 and October 2023, shows that agents encountered 6,386 nationals from Afghanistan in that period as well as 3,153 from Egypt, 659 from Iran and 538 from Syria.
Agents also encountered 13,624 from Uzbekistan, 30,830 from Turkey, 1,613 from Pakistan, 164 from Lebanon, 185 from Jordan, 139 from Yemen, 123 from Iraq and 15,594 from Mauritania. The data does not include information on how many of those migrants were removed or who were released into the U.S. with a court date.

Those numbers do not include encounters by CBP’s Office of Field Operations at ports of entry. It also does not include the numbers who have snuck past agents without detection -- sources say there have been over 1.5 million such "gotaways" during the Biden administration.
Meanwhile, fiscal year 2023 broke the record for encounters on the FBI terror watch list with 151 people encountered at the southern border between ports of entry, higher than the previous six years combined.
Border Patrol sources tell Fox they have extreme concerns about the people coming across from special interest countries, given they have little to no way to vet them. Unless they have committed a crime in the U.S. or are on a federal watch list, agents have no way of knowing their criminal history because their countries do not share data with the U.S., so there is nothing to match their name against when authorities run their fingerprints.

UK may arrest people for waving Palestinian flags
Police in England and Wales should treat Palestinian flags, chants and other symbols displayed in certain contexts as hate speech, Home Secretary Suella Braverman said in a letter of instruction sent on Tuesday.
“It is not just explicit pro-Hamas symbols and chants that are cause for concern,” Braverman wrote in the letter. “I would encourage police to consider whether chants such as: ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ should be understood as an expression of a violent desire to see Israel erased from the world, and whether its use in certain contexts may amount to a racially aggravated section 5 public order offense.”
“Context is crucial. Behaviors that are legitimate in some circumstances, for example the waving of a Palestinian flag, may not be legitimate such as when intended to glorify acts of terrorism,” Braverman added, urging “swift and appropriate enforcement action” against those who “drive through Jewish neighborhoods, or single out Jewish members of the public” and “aggressively chant or wave pro-Palestinian symbols” at them.
Police should deal with any protests that could “exacerbate community tensions by way of offensive placards, chants, or behaviors that could be construed as incitement or harassment,” Braverman concluded.
Her letter comes after a large crowd of people rallied in London on Monday evening outside the Israeli embassy in Kensington, chanting “Free Palestine!” and “Israel is a terrorist state!” Three people were arrested at that protest.
Meanwhile, around 2,000 people attended a vigil for Israel in Westminster, while Prime Minister Rishi Sunak went to a prayer service at Finchley United Synagogue in north London.
On Tuesday, Sunak vowed that anyone supporting Hamas would be “held to account,” noting that it was a “proscribed terrorist organization” in the UK.
Police had been “given very clear guidance and advice from the government to do everything that they can to keep the community safe,” Sunak said during a visit to Staffordshire, and will “clamp down on any behavior that falls foul of the law.”
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has called on supporters of Palestine to stay home, saying that their demonstrations cause “distress” in what he described as “a difficult, delicate situation.”
The UK has declared full support for Israel in the conflict with Hamas, which broke out on Saturday when the Palestinian militant group that runs much of Gaza fired rockets and sent commandos into Israeli territory.

Arab students suspended after beating teacher who objected to their provocative display of Palestine flags in schoolyard
A high school in Germany will have a larger security presence after a Muslim student was suspended for assaulting a teacher who objected to another Arab student provocatively waving a Palestinian flag in the schoolyard.
The incident occurred at the Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium school on Monday, initiated by a 14-year-old student who arrived at the school wearing a Palestinian flag as a cape and wrapping a Palestinian scarf around his head.
The student was asked by a 61-year-old teacher to refrain from displaying the items in adherence with the school’s policy against the wearing of political symbols.
According to a police statement, another Arab student, a 15-year-old boy, confronted the teacher and squared up to him in a threatening manner. The student headbutted the teacher, prompting the educator to respond in self-defense by striking the boy in the face. The teacher was then subsequently kicked to the floor and beaten.
Footage of the incident was published online by left-wing lawmaker Ferat Koçak.
According to the German newspaper Tagesspiegel, the two students involved in the altercation have been suspended until the end of the week, while the teacher is also under investigation.
The school’s leadership convened a crisis meeting with the local education authority and the police to discuss how to handle the incident and avoid a repeat of the situation.
“One thing is clear: Teachers must not be aggressive or violent toward students,” said a spokesperson for the education administration.
“Our top priority is to ensure school peace. We will not tolerate condoning the terrorist attacks on Israel in our schoolyards,” they added.
Senator for Education, Youth and Family of the State of Berlin Katharina Günther-Wünsch has called for wider discussions in schools about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East between Palestine and Israel over fears that tensions could spill over into diverse areas of Germany.
“It is to be feared that manifest or latent Israel-related anti-Semitism plays a role among some students. It is advisable to talk to the students about the events and help them to classify them,” she warned in an email to school management on Monday.

Meet the Harvard Students Supporting Hamas’ Invasion of Israel
Image Credit: AP Photo/Charles Krupa, File
In the wake of Hamas’ brutal surprise attack against Israel, 34 Harvard student organizations recently signed a joint statement blaming Israel for the attack and expressing support for Palestine.
“We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence,” the letter read.
“The apartheid regime is the only one to blame. Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years.”
To date, the Hamas invasion has killed over 900 Israeli citizens, and at least 11 American citizens. Reports of Hamas raping Israeli women, and videos of militants holding Israeli children in cages, have flooded social media. In one violent spectacle, Hamas militants paraded the naked, dead body of a German woman through the streets of Gaza in the back of a vehicle.
In some cases, Hamas terrorists even uploaded images or videos of their victims on the victims’ own social media accounts.
Despite such horrific brutality, the Harvard student groups offered Hamas their public support and blamed Israel for the murder and rape of its own citizens.
Townhall has identified the student leaders of several of those groups. Their names are listed below.

"Cars Spinning Everywhere": Train Carrying Military Vehicles Derails In Colorado Springs
A freight train operated by Union Pacific Railway, hauling heavy military vehicles, derailed near downtown Colorado Springs Monday night.
Local news KKTV 11 reported eight train cars hauling heavy military equipment derailed along Las Vegas Street, just south of Circle Drive, around 1830 local time.
Colorado Springs Police Department
"We were noticing that there were a lot of military vehicles going by," said Adolfo Rangel, who works across the street from the railroad tracks.
Rangel said, "We were watching them, and then all of a sudden we heard a big pop and bang. It was loud, it was really loud. Then this spun [gestured to part of the train behind him] and then everything started crashing together. I was like 'whoa.' I've never seen anything like that."
"Cars were just spinning everywhere," said Steven Watkins, another witness. "Gravel was thrown all over the place."
Watkins said, "The crashing and everything [was] probably three or four minutes because it was kind of, like, slow in a way, but then all of this stuff [gestured again to the mess behind him] started falling. It was loud. It was super loud."
KKTV 11 could not confirm where the train was headed with the Department of Defense. But considering war in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, one can only assume the vehicles were headed to possible ports for export.
After a train carrying vinyl chloride derailed and exploded in East Palestine, Ohio, earlier this year, there has been a lot of focus on train derailments. This is one of the first, so far, that we've heard involving a train hauling military equipment.

First Major World Politician Apologizes To the Unvaccinated: ‘You Were Right, We Were Wrong’
Danielle Smith, the premier of Alberta, Canada, is the first major elected politician in the world to issue a heartfelt apology to the unvaccinated for crimes perpetrated against their human rights by the government during Covid lockdowns.
Given that we now understand Covid vaccines do not stop transmission of the virus, and have caused millions of sudden deaths in young, healthy people, Premier Smith was asked if she would apologize on behalf of the state of Alberta for the government’s authoritarian treatment of the unvaccinated. She replied:
“I can apologize right now. I’m deeply sorry,” she said, “for anyone who was inappropriately subjected to discrimination as a result of their vaccine status, I’m deeply sorry. For any government employee that was fired from their job, because of their vaccine status, and I welcome them back if they want to come back.”
Even more amazing than the heartfelt apology, Premier Smith said she was seriously considering granting a legal amnesty to any Albertans charged with lockdown offenses.
Alberta is the first jurisdiction in Canada — perhaps even in the world — to apologize to its unvaccinated citizens for discriminating against them.
According to Smith, the unvaccinated are the most discriminated people she has ever witnessed in her lifetime.
Unsurprisingly, the premier is now the subject of attacks by mainstream media and Big Tech who are attempting to silence her.
Last week, Premier Smith announced Facebook had inexplicably suspended her account for a few days.
“Big tech and government censorship is becoming a danger to free speech around the world,” Smith protested Wednesday, in a tweet tagging Twitter owner Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
“As the Premier of a province of 4.6 million Albertans — if they can prevent me from communicating with you, imagine what they can do to any one of us.
“Regardless of our political leanings, we must all stand against censorship.”
