Biden Taps Former Hunter Biden Colleague To Lead Office of the Special Counsel

President Joe Biden has nominated Hunter Biden’s former law firm colleague to lead the Office of the Special Counsel, which has faced congressional pressure to investigate the Biden administration’s handling of an investigation into the troubled first son.
Biden on Wednesday tapped Hampton Dellinger to lead the office, which investigates corruption in the executive branch and provides protections to federal whistleblowers. Dellinger currently serves as head of the Justice Department’s office of legal policy.
If confirmed, Dellinger could create a conflict of interest given his links to Hunter Biden. Dellinger and the younger Biden worked together at the white shoe law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, the Washington Free Beacon reported. In 2014, Hunter Biden tapped Boies Schiller Flexner to represent Burisma Holdings, the Ukrainian energy firm where he served as a board member.
Hunter Biden and Boies Schiller Flexner’s crisis management and government response team developed a public relations and lobbying strategy to help Burisma, according to emails from Biden’s laptop. Dellinger served on Boies Schiller Flexner’s Crisis Management and Government Response team, though it is unclear if he did any work for Burisma.
But emails show Dellinger and Hunter Biden did cross paths on numerous occasions at Boies Schiller. The duo arranged a lunch date in February 2014. They also attended a dinner party for Boies Schiller partners in March 2014.
If confirmed, Dellinger will face congressional pressure to investigate whether the Biden administration retaliated against two IRS whistleblowers who have cried foul on the federal investigation into Hunter Biden.
In July, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), and other Republicans called on Special Counsel Henry Kerner to investigate whether the agencies retaliated against the whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler. The whistleblowers have accused the Justice Department of failing to fully investigate Hunter Biden’s tax evasion and foreign lobbying.
Among other claims, the whistleblowers have alleged that Hunter Biden failed to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in income from Burisma Holdings in 2014 and 2015. They have claimed Justice Department and IRS officials pulled them off the Biden probe as retaliation for voicing concerns about the investigation.
Hunter Biden’s attorneys have also threatened the whistleblowers. Abbe Lowell has suggested Shapley and Ziegler should be prosecuted for disclosing Biden’s tax information. They have denied any criminal wrongdoing and said their disclosures were made under protections provided to federal whistleblowers.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

Acting Speaker Orders Pelosi To Vacate Her Office: ‘The Room Will Be Re-Keyed’
Image Credit: Graeme Sloan/Sipa USA/Sipa via AP Images
Mere hours after taking over as speaker pro tempore with the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) ordered former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to vacate her office by Wednesday.
“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” an email sent to Pelosi’s office viewed by Politico stated. The email added that the room will be used “for speaker office use.”
Pelosi is currently using a hideaway office, which only a handful of members receive. Given that she is speaker emerita, McCarthy allowed Pelosi to occupy the space. McHenry, who is a McCarthy ally, is clearly less keen on it.
She slammed the move, calling it “a sharp departure from tradition.”
Pelosi may have some difficulty leaving the office by tomorrow, as Pelosi is in San Francisco attending memorial services for her friend and former Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who died last week.
“Sadly, because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time,” said Pelosi, who missed Tuesday’s vote in which McCarthy was ousted.
Eight Republicans joined 208 Democrats to vote to remove McCarthy after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) submitted a motion to vacate the chair, which triggered a vote of the full House.

NGOs demand that NO ELECTIONS be held in Ukraine to “preserve democracy”
Several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) – including some backed by Hungarian globalist billionaire George Soros – have demanded that no elections be held in Ukraine next year purportedly to "preserve democracy."
The group of 100 NGOs publicly appealed for the postponement of elections in Ukraine, arguing that presidential elections and full-scale war are incompatible. According to Euromaidan Press, the organizations claim that holding elections amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is dangerous. Doing so would lead to "the loss of legitimacy of both the process and the elected bodies" and may "significantly destabilize the state as a whole."
According to the NGOs, "elections alone do not constitute democracy." The mere act of voting, they argued, "does not prove a regime is truly democratic." They also noted that elections would only be free if candidates could engage in "a competitive political struggle" during the campaign period.
"Elections are not about one day of voting, but rather a loud debate between different parties about the best program for state development. Such a dialogue can be extremely heated and unbearably open, but it is the only way to ensure a truly democratic process."
Kyiv is set to hold national elections in March 2024, but still remains under martial law following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's February 2022 declaration. While he said Ukraine is ready to hold elections during a conference in early September, Zelensky remarked that "there are several problems that need to be solved."
According to Article 83 of the Ukrainian Constitution, "In the event of the expiration of the term of office of Ukraine's [unicameral parliament] Verkhovna Rada during martial law or a state of emergency, its powers shall be extended until the first meeting of the first session of [the parliament] elected after the lifting of martial law or a state of emergency." Given this, the group of more than 100 NGOs urged Kyiv to postpone elections until the war ends.
Postponement of elections an excuse to keep Zelensky in power
The calls from the NGOs came as a response to Ukraine's partners calling for elections in the country, including U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). "I want free and fair elections to occur in the country, even under attack," he said. "I believe it's time for Ukraine to take the next step in its democratic development, particularly to hold elections in 2024."
Given the NGOs' calls to postpone elections in Ukraine until the "end of the war," it definitely appears that the move is just an excuse to keep Zelensky in power. He exercised this power at the height of the Russia-Ukraine war, banning 11 political parties in the country that were allegedly linked to Russia. The move to ban the 11 parties contradicts the "competitive political struggle" the NGOs claim to be necessary for a democracy.
In March 2022, Zelensky announced the ban on the political parties in a video posted on Telegram. "Any activity of politicians aimed at splitting or collaborating will not succeed," he said. The prohibited political parties included the Opposition Platform – For Life, Shariy Party, Nashi, Opposition Bloc, Left Opposition, Union of Left Forces, Derzhava (State) Party, Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, Socialist Party of Ukraine, Socialists Party and Volodymyr Saldo Bloc.
Aside from the suspension of the 11 parties, Zelensky also took over the media. A March 20, 2022 report by Reuters said the Ukrainian leader signed a decree combining all national TV channels into one platform. According to Zelensky's office, the decree highlights the importance of a "unified information policy" under martial law.

Exclusive: Donald Trump Followers Targeted by FBI as 2024 Election Nears
The federal government believes that the threat of violence and major civil disturbances around the 2024 U.S. presidential election is so great that it has quietly created a new category of extremists that it seeks to track and counter: Donald Trump's army of MAGA followers.
The challenge for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the primary federal agency charged with law enforcement, is to pursue and prevent what it calls domestic terrorism without direct reference to political parties or affiliations—even though the vast majority of its current "anti-government" investigations are of Trump supporters, according to classified data obtained by Newsweek.
"The FBI is in an almost impossible position," says a current FBI official, who requested anonymity to discuss highly sensitive internal matters. The official said that the FBI is intent on stopping domestic terrorism and any repeat of the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. But the Bureau must also preserve the Constitutional right of all Americans to campaign, speak freely and protest the government. By focusing on former president Trump and his MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters, the official said, the Bureau runs the risk of provoking the very anti-government activists that the terrorism agencies hope to counter.
"Especially at a time when the White House is facing Congressional Republican opposition claiming that the Biden administration has 'weaponized' the Bureau against the right wing, it has to tread very carefully," says the official.
Newsweek spoke to over a dozen current or former government officials who specialize in terrorism in a three-month investigation to understand the current domestic-security landscape and to evaluate what President Joe Biden's administration is doing about what it calls domestic terrorism. Most requested anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly, were reluctant to stray into partisan politics or feared the repercussions of speaking frankly.
Newsweek has also reviewed secret FBI and Department of Homeland Security data that track incidents, threats, investigations and cases to try to build a better picture. While experts agree that the current partisan environment is charged and uniquely dangerous (with the threat not only of violence but, in the most extreme scenarios, possibly civil war), many also question whether "terrorism" is the most effective way to describe the problem, or that the methods of counterterrorism developed over the past decade in response to Al-Qaeda and other Islamist groups constitute the most fruitful way to craft domestic solutions.
"The current political environment is not something that the FBI is necessarily responsible for, nor should it be," says Brian Michael Jenkins, one of the world's leading terrorism experts and senior adviser to the president of the RAND Corporation.
In a statement to Newsweek, the FBI said: "The threat posed by domestic violent extremists is persistent, evolving, and deadly. The FBI's goal is to detect and stop terrorist attacks, and our focus is on potential criminal violations, violence and threats of violence. Anti-government or anti-authority violent extremism is one category of domestic terrorism, as well as one of the FBI's top threat priorities." The FBI further said, "We are committed to protecting the safety and constitutional rights of all Americans and will never open an investigation based solely on First Amendment protected activity, including a person's political beliefs or affiliations."
The White House declined to comment. The Trump campaign was given an opportunity to comment but did not do so.

Alberta power grid operator warns Trudeau gov’t ‘net zero’ goals are ‘not feasible’
Alberta’s electric grid operator has warned that the Trudeau government’s 2035 net-zero power grid goal will mean instability for the western province.
During a press conference last week, Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), the organization responsible for operating Alberta’s power grid, condemned the federal government’s net-zero emissions goal by 2035 as “not feasible.”
“Our analysis shows that the way the CER [Clean Electricity Regulations] is currently written is going to create supply adequacy and reliability challenges for Alberta’s power system from 2035 and beyond,” AESO chief executive officer Michael Law told reporters.
AESO analyzed Ottawa’s CER draft for a net-zero power grid across the country by 2035, which is 15 years earlier than Alberta has stated is possible for the province.
According to AESO’s research, Alberta is not capable to produce the energy supply needed to ensure the reliability of the system by 2035.
“This energy shortfall increases over time, increasing reliability and safety risks for Alberta’s power system and all Albertans,” Law added.
Additionally, according to AESO, Alberta’s current goal of 2050 would cause minimal additional emissions reductions compared to the Trudeau government’s goal of 2035. However, under the 2035 goal, electricity costs would be about $118 billion higher.
Shortly after AESO’s analysis was made public, Premier Danielle Smith announced a new national advertising campaign to fight the Liberal government’s electricity goals.
Smith has repeatedly refused to submit to the Liberal government’s demands, warning that Canadians could freeze in the winter if the new “clean emissions” regulations are enforced.
Late last month, Smith announced that she is preparing to use her province’s Sovereignty Act to fight the energy regulations.
The draft version of the federal government’s CER states that there will be billions of higher costs associated with a so-called “green” power transition, especially in the resource-rich provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, which use natural gas and coal to fuel power plants.
This May, Canada’s Minister of Environment Steven Guilbeault declared that violating environmental regulations banning the use of coal and gas-fired power after 2035 may even result in criminal sanctions, a statement which only increased the tension between the federal government and the provinces opposed to the proposed policies.
The Trudeau government also recently threatened to withhold billions of taxpayer money to provinces that will continue to use resources such as natural gas, oil and coal to generate electricity beyond 2035.
In addition to Smith, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has likewise promised to fight back against Trudeau’s new regulations, saying recently that “Trudeau’s net-zero electricity regulations are unaffordable, unrealistic and unconstitutional.”
“They will drive electricity rates through the roof and leave Saskatchewan with an unreliable power supply. Our government will not let the federal government do that to the Saskatchewan people,” he charged.
The Trudeau government’s current environmental goals – in lockstep with the United Nations’ “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” – include phasing out coal-fired power plants, reducing fertilizer usage, and curbing natural gas use over the coming decades.
The reduction and eventual elimination of the use of so-called “fossil-fuels” and a transition to unreliable “green” energy has also been pushed by the World Economic Forum (WEF) – the globalist group behind the socialist “Great Reset” agenda – an organization which Trudeau and some of his cabinet are involved.

Pope Francis rebukes ‘irresponsible’ USA on climate change compared to China, says world’s at ‘breaking point’
Pope Francis issued a new call for climate change action on Wednesday, when he slammed the United Stated in particular as “irresponsible” on emissions compared to China.
“The world in which we live is collapsing and may be nearing the breaking point,” the pope wrote in the 12-page “Laudate Deum,” which means “Praise God” in Latin.
“If we consider that emissions per individual in the United States are about two times greater than those of individuals living in China, and about seven times greater than the average of the poorest countries, we can state that a broad change in the irresponsible lifestyle connected with the Western model would have a significant long-term impact,” he wrote.
After taking square aim at the United States, Francis heightened the alarm about the “irreversible” harm to people and the planet already underway and lamented that once again, the world’s poor and most vulnerable are paying the highest price. The pope said, “The necessary transition towards clean energy sources such as wind and solar energy, and the abandonment of fossil fuels, is not progressing at the necessary speed.”
The document comes as an update to Pope Francis’ landmark 2015 encyclical on the environment titled “Laudato Si,” meaning “Praise Be.” In that 180-page encyclical, the head of the Catholic Church notably scolded climate change deniers and called for an “ecological conversion” among the faithful.
In “Laudate Deum,” Francis praised the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for evoking “Laudato Si” this year in affirming, “our care for one another and our care for the earth are intimately bound together. Climate change is one of the principal challenges facing society and the global community. The effects of climate change are borne by the most vulnerable people, whether at home or around the world.”
The new document was released on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the pontiff’s nature-loving namesake, and was aimed at spurring negotiators to commit to binding climate targets at the next round of United Nations talks in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Using scientific data, sharp diplomatic arguments and a sprinkling of theological reasoning, Francis delivered a moral imperative for the world to transition away from fossil fuels to clean energy with measures that are “efficient, obligatory and readily monitored.”

Writer sentenced to jail for calling activist a 'fat lesbian'
A writer has been jailed for two months for calling an activist a "fat lesbian."
Alain Soral, a Swiss writer, critiqued Catherine Macherel as a "queer activist" and described her as "unhinged," including the descriptive "fat lesbian."
A report from Fox News said that a court in Lausanne, Switzerland, ordered Soral, who also goes by the name Alain Bonnet, to jail for 60 days for the "crimes" of "defamation, discrimination and incitement to hatred."
The comments were posted online in a Facebook video several years ago.
Macherel is a writer for Swiss newspapers Tribune de Geneve and 24 Heures.
"This court decision is an important moment for justice and rights of LGBTQI people in Switzerland," boasted Murial Waeger, of an activist organization promoting lesbianism.
"The conviction of Alain Soral is a strong signal that homophobic hatred cannot be tolerated in our society."
Soral also was ordered to pay thousands of Swiss francs in penalties.
Pascal Junod, a lawyer for Soral, mocked the conviction for a "crime of opinion" in an email to a media outlet. He said the case aimed to probe whether a person had "sinned against the dogmas of single thought." An appeal is planned of the punishment, to the European Court of Human Rights if needed, the lawyer said.
The issue arose because of a Swiss law making it illegal to discriminate against people on the basis of sexual orientation.
While similar punishments have not yet developed in the United States, there are multiple jurisdictions where there already have been schemes to make it "illegal" to criticize, or "discriminate against" someone based on their gender beliefs.
In fact, in one case already under way, 16-year-old Abbigail Wheeler was removed from her local YMCA swim team for expressing alarm at having a biological male in the women's locker room, Fox reported.
And there have been the cases involving 303 Creative and Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, where extremists in the homosexual and transgender communities have claimed they have the right to force Christian business operators to violate their faith to accommodate their demands of those businesses.
Both of those companies have won their disputes at the U.S. Supreme Court, but activists continue to level charges against any company they perceive as not advocating for the alternative lifestyle choices they've made.
